Marcos graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1983. He also holds a Ph.D. in Science in the Parasite Biology Course at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute-Fiocruz. He has more than 30 years of experience in microbiology, with an emphasis on vaccinology. Health Technologist at Fiocruz since 1984, he was deputy director of Technological Development at Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz since 2009. He is responsible for developing the yellow fever vaccine for golden lion tamarins. A rural landowner in Silva Jardim, Rio de Janeiro, he participated in the project to reintroduce the golden lion tamarin on private properties.
